Chris is the Sorenson Pearson Scholar and is from Hartford. He came to Westminster as a graduate of the Hartford Youth Scholars program and is presently an Honor Roll student, a National High School Scholar and a recipient of the Ray Allen Scholarship. He has been recognized for Highest Achievement in Math, English, Reading and Music and has received the Citizen of the Month Award and the Golden Baton for Music. He participates in the Multicultural Student Union, Computer Club, Math Club and the John Hay Chapel Leaders and serves as a Black & Gold tour guide and a peer counselor. Chris also plays varsity basketball, football & track on campus and AAU basketball off campus, and volunteers his time at a local soup kitchen and in various walks raising funds for cancer research.
Gary is from South Windsor and is a High Honor Roll student and a Hartford Youth Scholars graduate. He is Co-President of Better America and participates in the Multicultural Student Union, John Hay Chapel Leaders, Student Activities Committee, Math Club, Business Club, SALSA Club and theater. He volunteers as a Black & Gold tour guide and is active with football, track & field and varsity swimming.
Kailin lives in Hartford and is the Heads Scholar. She is a Hartford Youth Scholar Foundation graduate, an Honor Roll student and a recipient of the English Prize. Her extracurricular activities include the Black & Hispanic School Association, Tech Theater, Chorale, Scene Shop, Multicultural Student Union, Ladies of Color Affinity Group, Peer Mediation, Loaves & Fishes, volunteering at a local soup kitchen, volleyball, tennis and basketball. Kailin is spending her senior year in Italy through Westminster’s School Year Abroad program.
Jalen is the Imagineers Scholar from East Hartford. He is a High Honor Roll student, a member of the Dean’s List and Headmaster’s List, with a perfect attendance record and has been recognized as Student of the Month. He volunteers his time with Special Olympics, at a soup kitchen, cleaning up local parks and with various food drives and book drives. On campus he is a member of the Bowtie Club, Network Club, Entrepreneur Club, the Riddlers and the Sing-ed Beavers. He plays varsity football, JV basketball, varsity track and Thirds baseball and enjoys guitar, keyboard/piano and songwriting.
Xavier is from East Windsor and is an Honor Roll student. This year he is a member of Student Council and participates in Global Outreach, Nimrod Club, Young Progressives Club, Theater and Independent Art. He also volunteers as a Dorm Monitor and enjoys skateboarding.
Andres is from Avon and is a Barnes Foundation Scholar. He is on the Honor Roll and the Dean’s List and has been recognized as Student of the Month. He participates in the Investments Club and Entrepreneur Club and is a waiter at the Blue Blazer Ball. He is a Counselor in Training at the AOF summer camp, participates in ice hockey, soccer, golf, tennis, baseball and conditioning, and volunteers with Avon Outreach.
Chelsea is from South Windsor and is an Honor Roll student. She participates in PRISM and ceramics, volunteers her time at a Vacation Bible School, and is a member of the volleyball and track & field teams.
Shanelle is from Hartford and is the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Scholar. She graduated from the Hartford Youth Scholars program and is on the High Honor Roll. She has participated in the Summer in Spain Program and the Immersion Geometry Program and has been selected as Student of the Month. She is presently a member of the Pelican Support Network, Ballroom Dancing Club, Sci-Fi Club, PRISM, Drama Club and the school journal. She sings in the Concert Choir and is the Soprano Section Leader in the School Choir. Shanelle volunteers with Foodshare, at the Boys & Girls Club, at a local orphanage and as a Peer Mentor on campus. She manages the Varsity Track team and is active in JV volleyball, tennis, swimming and cycling.
Abagail is from Colchester is this year’s Koopman Scholar. She is a High Honor Roll student and has received the Baxter Science Award. She volunteers as a peer counselor, as a tour guide on campus, as a youth soccer coach and at the Boys & Girls Club along with helping to organize fundraisers as part her efforts in the Pelican Service Organization. She plays clarinet, guitar and baritone saxophone in the Concert Band and Jazz Band, plays soccer for the Oakwood Premier Soccer Club, and is active in snowboarding, basketball, soccer, track and lacrosse.
Kayla is from Middletown and is this year's Kraus Scholar. She is an Honor Roll student and a Class Senator and has received the Graham Anthony Jr. Prize. She is a member of Shield and Dragon, United Students, the Gender and Sexuality Alliance, Model UN and Team Tobati as well as a contributor to Epic Magazine. She plays on the AAU Basketball team, participates in track & field, and was a NEPSAC Class B All-Star in 2014-2015.
Cassie is the FIP Scholar from Glastonbury. She is an Honor Roll student and recipient of the Jeffrey Bitner Prize, the First Year Award and the Martin-Nicholson Merit Scholarship. Her activities include Model UN, United Students, Orange is the New Gray, Gender & Sexuality Alliance, Team Tobati, and playing in both the KO orchestra and the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Cassie plays varsity tennis and squash.
Koby is from Manchester and is an Honors student who has traveled to Paraguay with Team Tobati. He has received the Jonathan Downs Prize and was nominated for the Butkus Award. He is a member of the Investments Club and Boys of Color and is a Semper Fidelis All-American who captains the football and track & field teams and manages the basketball team.
Tahj is from Hartford and is a Hartford Youth Scholars graduate and an Honor Roll student. He is involved in Student Council, Math Club, Choir, Habitat for Humanity, the school newspaper, Multicultural Association and Diversity Club. He plays African Drums and volunteers as a Tour Guide and Dorm Proctor. Tahj plays the African drums and participates in baseball, varsity football, basketball and track. He has received the Athlete of the Week Award, the Glover & Rockwell MVP Award and the Outstanding Achievement Award for Track.
Bailey is the Gummere Scholar from Broad Brook and is an Honor Roll student. She participates in Chorus, Multicultural Club and Honors Chamber Singers. She volunteers at a day care and plays varsity field hockey, basketball, softball and track and was selected as the girls’ basketball MVP.
Shannelle is a Barnes Foundation Scholar, a Hartford Youth Scholars graduate, a High Honor Roll student and a Bloomfield resident. She received the Freshman Vocal Prize and is editor of the school newspaper and a member of the Political Club, Student Council Academic Committee, Pen Pal Club, Dance and Chorus. She volunteers with Foodshare and as a tutor at the Charter Oak Cultural Center, plays the cello and violin, manages the JV volleyball team and is captain of the varsity softball team.
